    At Play

Is there any greater joy than observing a child at work or play at times when they are not aware they are being watched? Be it running through the warm summer water of a mountain stream, watching the ocean waves come in and out, or intensely focused on writing, this series focuses on recapturing those special childhood moments.

Heidi has "captured" those unique images of concentration and stillness, when a child is a complete part of his own world within our world, totally oblivious to anything else without.

Does the sight bring back our own happy childhood memories? How can we not remember wet sand between our toes, watching our shadow move across the wet surfaces, kicking up streams of current into the air, staring off into faraway horizons or involving ourselves so completely in a favorite book that we forget to breathe? As adults, we are so rushed and hurried in our external worlds that we forget that these moments even existed. Let this series remind us of the child within us that yearns to recapture those moments at play.

    The Misfits

he "Misfit" series began in 1998. The first 3 pieces won the prestigious Kingsley Art club scholarship in 1999, which was awarded at the Crocker Art Museum.

This series has taken on a completely new meaning since the terror attacks of September 11 and the current political climate in the United States. Several of the paintings feature the American Flag motif as a background, and seem to ask several questions: "What does it means to be 'inside the box' of conformity (or patriotism)? Are we on the inside or the outside?"

With the recent events surrounding Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, many Americans must now face questions they have perhaps not thought of before: there are many poor people living in America. They are disenfranchised, they are homeless, and many of them are unwanted. Where do these people fit into our society? Who are we to judge them? Where will they go? Are we willing to help them?

This series is an ongoing piece of work and original pieces are not for sale. If you are interested in a print, please contact the artist.
